Physiotherapy for balance and mobility issues
Physiotherapy for balance and mobility issues
There are many reasons that your mobility and balance may be reduced. It may be due to a period of acute illness, ongoing multiple health issues, following an operation, following a fall, or simply due to increasing age. This can also result in a reduction of confidence and avoidance of activity. At Pathways Physiotherapy we would complete a full assessment to target the factors contributing to the mobility issues.
This may involve strengthening work, balance exercises, movement analysis/retraining and a review of walking aids if appropriate. It is important to stop any downward spiral of weakness and loss of function and to give clients back their confidence to move and exercise.
If falls have been occurring then it is important that we look at the potential contributing factors and address these.
For clients who have a very significant loss of mobility, we can look at optimal seating, positioning and transfer aids to maintain safety and maximise function and quality of life. We can also work with family and carers to ensure that everyone involved is using the optimal therapeutic moving and handling techniques.
